It’s easy to see why today’s Morning Man was included in People Magazine’s 2008 Sexiest Man Alive issue.
He’s Nathan Gunn and he’s another one of those hunky opera singers who is as impossibly handsome as he is talented.
The 42-year-old was born in South Bend, Indiana, and is noted for his vocal prowess, his acting, and for his physique. Nathan has appeared in many of world’s well-known opera houses in such roles as Paul in Amelia, Lancelot in Camelot, Marcello in La bohème, and the title roles in Billy Budd and Hamlet.

Hugh Jackman nabbed the top spot as People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2008. But among the list of the “The Sexiest Men Alive” that year was a certain baritone and Hoosier, Nathan Gunn.
This month, audiences will get more than eye candy when Gunn, who hails from South Bend, Ind., takes the stage as part of the Speed Concert Series.
His Louisville appearance comes in the wake of positive reviews of his performance last summer in Santa Fe Opera’s premiere of Jennifer Higdon’s first opera “Cold Mountain,” which is based on Charles Frazier’s 1997 novel. In the opera, Gunn played the role Confederate soldier W.P. Inman who makes his way over hundreds of miles to reunite with his fiancée in North Carolina.
Gunn has received other accolades for performances as Count Danilo in Susan Stroman’s ‘The Merry Widow’ at the Metropolitan Opera for roles he has created for other new operas, including that of Paul in Daron Hagen’s “Amelia” for the Seattle Opera.
He also has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony as well as singing musicals (“Camelot” “Carousel” and “Show Boat”) with the New York Philharmonic and at Carnegie Hall and the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
