The Kennedy family said their hearts were shattered by the young woman's death

Paramedics rushed to the home on Thursday and took her to Cape Cod Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, the New York Times reports.

“Our hearts are shattered by the loss of our beloved Saoirse,” the Kennedy family said in a statement.

“Her life was filled with hope, promise and love.”

Her grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, said: “The world is a little less beautiful today.”

Saoirse was the only daughter of Robert and Ethel Kennedy’s fifth child, Courtney, and Paul Michael Hill.

Hill was one of four falsely convicted in the 1974 Irish Republican Army bombings of two pubs.

STRUGGLE WITH DEPRESSION

While at boarding school, Saoirse wrote about her struggle with depression and mental health.

She revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a friend during her junior year at Deerfield Academy and attempted to take her own life.

In an article for her student paper, she told how this trauma prompted her to seek treatment for her depression.

"My sense of well-being was already compromised, and I totally lost it after someone I knew and loved broke serious sexual boundaries with me," she wrote.

"I did the worst thing a victim can do, and I pretended it hadn’t happened. This all became too much, and I attempted to take my own life."

She revealed that as a child she suffered “bouts of deep sadness that felt like a heavy boulder on my chest”.

Saoirse said her depression "took root in the beginning of my middle school years and will be with me for the rest of my life".

Speaking about her time in school, she wrote: "Deerfield is one of the top educational institutions in the country, yet no one seems to know how to talk about mental illness.

"People talk about cancer freely; why is it so difficult to discuss the effects of depression, bi-polar, anxiety, or schizophrenic disorders?"

Saoirse went on to enroll at Boston College, where she was a communication major and vice president of the College Democrats.

She was passionate about human rights and women’s empowerment and worked with indigenous communities to build schools in Mexico.

“She lit up our lives with her love, her peals of laughter and her generous spirit,” the family statement said.

SUSPECTED DRUG OVERDOSE

Boston 25 News, citing a law enforcement source, reported that Hill died from a suspected drug overdose at the estate in Massachusetts, US.

"Earlier this afternoon Barnstable Police responded to a residence on Marchant Ave in Hyannis Port for a reported unattended death," Cape and Islands Assistant District Attorney Tara Miltimore said in a statement.

"The matter remains under investigation by Barnstable Police and State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office."

The Kennedy Compound consists of several waterfront homes along the Nantucket Sound in Hyannis Port.

It has been home to multiple members of the political powerhouse Kennedy clan for several decades.

HISTORY OF FAMILY TRAGEDY

The family is no stranger to tragedy.

This will add to a litany of untimely deaths which had led members of the family to question whether there is a so-called Kennedy curse,

President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 on a visit to Dallas, Texas, when he was 46 years old.

The former president’s brother and Saoirse’s grandad, Robert F. Kennedy, was assassinated just years later in 1968 in Los Angeles during his own presidential run.

Their brother Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was killed in World War II, and their sister Kathleen Cavendish died in a plane crash in 1948.

The president’s son, John F. Kennedy Jr., was killed in 1999 when the airplane he was flying crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Martha’s Vineyard.

His wife and sister-in-law were on board and were also killed.

Bobby Robert Kennedy marry Ethel Skankel?  Why did..

Why did Robert Kennedy marry Ethel Skankel?

Why did Robert Kennedy marry Ethel Skankel?

When he pretty much could have had any woman in the world?

Her family had power and prestige and more money than the Kennedys.

Because she had such a pretty name.

He liked the way she always dug for gold.

He liked her?

Pussy's pussy, and money's money. When the two cross, grab them.

—Quotations from a Loving Father: The Wisdom of Joseph Kennedy

They were more friends, acted like brother and sister between each other, than some hot couple.

Over-dress much, dear?

She loved anal.

It was Skakel, dear. And Mrs. Kennedy did not have cankles!.

They were more friends, acted like brother and sister between each other,

Of the southern variety.

Because she was high-production with low-upkeep.

She had planned on becoming a nun before meeting Kennedy. I think there was a thread on DL a year or two ago where the possibility that she's a lesbian was discussed.

She presented him her hole.

"When he pretty much could have had any woman in the world?" Well, he couldn't have had "any woman in the world." He was a rich Kennedy but I imagine a lot of women would not have wanted to be part of that clan.  "They were more friends, acted like brother and sister between each other, than some hot couple." Since they had ELEVEN children together he really must have liked fucking his sister.  He and Ethel were very well-matched. She was boisterous and unprententious and energetic; just like the Kennedy sisters. She even looked like a Kennedy, what with her gingery coloring and big teeth. And of course she was an excellent breeder. They were perfect for each other. I think Ethel Kennedy would have made a very interesting First Lady, much more interesting than the ice queen Jackie.

He was very shy and insecure when he was young, and his first sexual experience must've been traumatizing. I think he took the first offer that came along because that's what he was expected to do.

Their personalities were not really well-matched at all. As [R16] described, Ethel was a notorious bitch, snotty, arrogant, big-spender... basically every bad stereotype of the rich and powerful, Ethel fulfilled it. But Bobby was mostly quiet, pragmatic, polite, uncomfortable with the life he was born into. At one point, I believe, during his journey through the poverty situation in America, he confided to one of the people in the car with him that he would like to live in an apartment in Bed-Stuy.

He and Ethel were very well-matched. She was boisterous and unprententious and energetic; just like the Kennedy sisters. One acquaintance allegedly described Ethel as "more Kennedy than thou."

I guess most high society women wouldn't want to become a brood mare and spit out 11 children.

The Kennedy's were like old European aristocracy in that they married for money, lineage and position.

There was some gossip or a rumor that Bobby had sex with Rudolf Nureyev in a telephone both. BTW, sorry but Bobby wasn't good looking at all. I think Jack got the looks in that family because the Kennedy's were one butt ugly family.

Ethel and Bobby's house was always notoriously filthy with children being unruly and running around the house. I think Ethel is white trash.

She may well have been a bitch on wheels, I have no idea. But one of my friends worked as her gardener for a time and said she was wonderful, kind and funny.

Joe Jr. was the pretty one, to the degree, of course, that any of them were pretty. He was the prettiest.

 Her family's money, OP.

At that point in time the Skakel (not Skankel) family owned Great Lakes Carbon, an enormously wealthy and privately held corporation. The Greenwich mansion that the family lived in (off on Simmons Lane in the backcountry) was legendary.

Actually, Ethel was more readily accepted into the Kennedy clan than Jackie Kennedy. Echoing what another poster wrote here, Ethel was very similar in personality to Bobby's sisters (e.g. athletic, and outgoing). Many people who knew Bobbie and Ethel did make the brother/sister analogy with respect to their marriage. And perhaps most telling is that, according to many, Ethel really did adore Bobby, and Bobby knew it.

They were well matched in personality, even if they were very different. He was a thoughtful, unhappy young man, who felt overshadowed by his brothers, and having a cheerful, energetic, loving wife helped him open up and grow into himself. And he adored her, in a way a homely rich girl wouldn't necessarily expect from her husband. Yes, she could be a bitch on wheels, and was to her children. But not to him, by all accounts she was devoted to him.

Bobby wasn't the whore his brothers were...and he was probably faithful to Ethel for the first ten years of their marriage. Deal with it!

Perhaps she had a bucket fanny?

If I remember right, Ethel was the college roomate of one of Bobby's sisters.

Ethel has knobby-knees. ethel is a pro life anti gay repressed dyke

It's FRIENDSHIP FRIENDSHIP

Ethel Mertz would have been a better Ethel to have in the White House.

She had planned on becoming a nun before meeting Kennedy. I think there was a thread on DL a year or two ago where the possibility that she's a lesbian was discussed.

I think this is what you are referring to:

Ethel's college friends said she was very "confused, but back then we didn't address such confusion as we would today. In our circle, you either got married, or you became a nun. Those were your choices."

Bobby used to date Ethel's sister Patricia, and Ethel was interested in Jack, but Jack wasn't interested in her and she wanted to be a Kennedy.

[R28], Joy Behar bitch said there was an FBI report that was declassified fairly recently that revealed Bobby, Jack, and Ted Kennedy went to the Carlyle Hotel along with Frank Sinatra and rented a room. Marilyn was brought along and she was THE ONLY female in the room. Apparently Marilyn took on all 4 guys having sex with her. Poor Marilyn she was so used. She was very vulnerable because she was always looking for male acceptance no matter how low she had to go, and Frank Sinatra and the Kennedys knew it and took full advantage of her. So, I didn't mean to divert the subject to make it focused on Marilyn Monroe.

Ethel was the typical high society wife, which were told to look the other way when their husbands had affairs, mistresses, etc. Bobby was part of that good old boy way of life. Also, Bobby had affairs with Candice Bergen, Jackie, of course, and numerous other rich and famous women.

Cause she would suck him until the cows came home.

It's taking Joy a lot longer than I expected to go through all the files the FBI dropped off at her house. All these thoughtful memories about Bobby ... remember, he was the one who suggested we blow up an American naval vessel and blame it on the Cubans as an excuse for invading.

Well Bobby liked her, didn't he? Why would he make her 11 kids otherwise? that would have happened after 1960. Ten or more years after they were married. Bobby & Ethel were married in 1950.

Cause she would suck him until the cows came home.

Maybe it was heroin, like John and Yoko.

I haven't read the report, neither did I hear Joy Behar. I would, however, point out that J. Edgar Hoover and Bobby Kennedy hated each other. I would not readily believe anything Hoover's FBI wrote about RFK.

A sloppy, loose pussy is better than no pussy"

—Joe Sr.

I pick my nose.

Because she had man hands and feet, and that strangely aroused him.

He got her pregnant and it was a shot gun wedding.

She could suck a golf ball through a gar

"of the rich and famous homes were bugged." I seriously doubt that. Again, it sounds like something out of a ridiculous tabloid story.

Ethel hated Jackie because Jackie had everything she lacked: poise, class and beauty. The public adored Jackie and shouted "We love you!" to her. To Ethel, they shouted, "Waitress, I'd like to order a drink." I remember an anecdote during Bobby's 1968 presidential campaign when he was way ahead and things were looking very good that he could be the next president of the United States. Jackie and other family members were all at a gathering and she exuberantly said something like "It will be so wonderful if we win the White House again." And Ethel snarled, "What do you mean 'we'."

Correct, but Ethel wasn't the only one. The Kennedy sisters were jealous of Jackie too. They constantly ragged on her for being a snob...calling her "deb" etc. It must have been hard for ALL the Kennedy women to live in Jackie's shadow. She was fawned over by everyone, including Joe who didn't bother to hide the fact that she was his favorite. It would be like having a supermodel for in the family.

"Ethel hated Jackie because Jackie had everything she lacked: poise, class and beauty. The public adored Jackie and shouted "We love you!" to her. To Ethel, they shouted, "Waitress, I'd like to order a drink." Ethel didn't "hate" Jackie, you twat. They didn't have anything to do with each other. Ethel had her life, Jackie had hers. And I seriously doubt that the public shouted "I love you!" to Jackie and "Waitress, I'd like to order a drink" to Ethel. That's just bullshit you made up, you silly Jackie fangurl. "The Kennedy sisters were jealous of Jackie too. They constantly ragged on her for being a snob...calling her "deb" etc. It must have been hard for ALL the Kennedy women to live in Jackie's shadow. She was fawned over by everyone, including Joe who didn't bother to hide the fact that she was his favorite. It would be like having a supermodel for in the family." They were not "jealous" of her. They found her snottiness and stuck-up manner hilarious. And just who the hell "fawned" over her? Not the Kennedys! They frequently made fun of her; they snickered about the fact that she said her name was pronounced "Jack-leen" instead of "Jack-que-line." "Rhymes with queen", they chortled.  Humorless, whispery-voiced, staid Jackie stuck out like a sore thumb among the Kennedys. She was always an outsider; she never fit in among them.

Uh, the entire world dipshit. We're talking Lady Di levels of worship. Were you ever around in the 60's? Jackie O is an icon. People are still fascinated by her even now---50 years later. Ethel? Not so much.

Actually, Jackie maintained a cordial relationship with her sisters-in-law all of her life. Were they the best of friends? No, but they were in contact on a regular basis, and were always together for family events.

I have no doubt a few bitchy things were said; I remember my own mother's relationship with some family members on my father's side not being extremely close, but that's the way it is in any family.

And surprisingly enough, the name "Ethel" was considered to be pretty and high-class in the early part of the 20th century.

She was fawned over by everyone, including Joe who didn't bother to hide the fact that she was his favorite.

There was a thread here a while ago that suggested Jacqueline slept with Joe Kennedy. I think it may be possible. They were very close. He gave her everything. He paid for her designer look in the White House. All of the bills for Oleg Cassini were sent to Joe. When she wanted a horse, he bought her that too.

[R73] that is right, Ethel did get pissed at Jackie when Jackie said we in Bobby's campaign. They said she almost acted like she was going to become the first lady.

Jack never ever worked in his life. He only worked on the expectations he was supposed to fulfill as president. Jack father paid for everything through out Jack's life and when Jack married Jackie, Jack's father paid for everything for Jackie as well. All they did was send the bill to Jack's father. I doubt Jackie and her father-in- law were an item because she had something that her father- in -law desperately wanted from her, class. He knew Jackie was the most special out of all of the rest of his daughters-in-law. He knew Jackie would be a perfect first lady and what she would bring to the White House and to his son's presidency.Jack's father was driven constantly trying to gain power by using his sons as chest pieces.

Joe Kennedy didn't "fawn" over her. He thought she would make a good wife for Jack because she was "classy" but I don't think he had any particular fondness for her. Anyway, Jack and Jackie were a match made in hell; they had absolutely no love for each other, although Jackie adored being the wife of the President of the United States.  Jackie was a style icon for a while and the world fell at her feet when JFK got killed. But her image and reputation took a big hit after she married Aristotle Onassis. Her fangurls insist she married him for "security (she wasn't exactly destitute to being with)", but she was a golddigger, plain and simple. She married him for his money, which she worshipped. She didn't want to be just rich; she wanted to be filthy, obscenely rich. I hear her daughter Caroline inherited her mother's "money lust", as some people call it. I call it just plain old nasty greed.

SJP greeted JFKJr at the airport in a limo wearing nothing but a mink coat; of course he found her attractive. Joe paid Jackie's bills becase she stayed with Jack espite his outside sex; she got a Braque painting from the father in exchange for agreeing to stay after JFK gave her an STD Grace Kelly's family travelled to Europe with the Kennedys by ship when Grace graduated from high school (doubt they were on the same ship by accident.( JFK and Grace spent time together, but Joe decided the match wasn't suitable because the Kellys were "too show bisiness" (her father's brother was a playwright.) they probably weren't rich enough for him. Despite attending a good Philadelhia gir's school apparently Grace made no attempt to apply to college; when her family got back from Europe that summer, she and her mother toured women's colleges in the East and were *astonished* to find that she was supposed to have applied the previous winter. She wound up talking her way into AADA. I always thought her parents and the Kennedys expected her to hook up with one of the Kennedy boys on that cruise. While she was at Manhattanville (then on what is now the City Collee campus in Harlem) Ethel's family hosted her friends and Bobby each weekend in Greenwich while he tutored the girls in history. Probably also arranged by the families. After college Ethel stayed on to teach PE there for a while, then "volunteered" on Jack's campaigns for a few years, probably spending her time ingratiating herself with the family until Bobby gae up and married her.

That's right. She was pregnant with their last child when he was killed before her eyes. Ethel loved Bobby long before he realized he loved her. He was extremely shy and very much idolized his older brothers Joe and Jack. They had one of the few loving relationships in that family. Well, except Jackie and John did get close again after Patrick died. Eunice and Sarge were a very loving couple. But Patricia, Jean, Kathleen, Joe, Teddy all had miserable luck with love. Joan was an alcoholic, Teddy was too, as well as a whore. It's funny how the Kennedy men were so contemptuous of women, and were so promiscuous, and Bobby really wasn't. I think Rosie was better suited as a mother to her sons as brittle and religious as she was, then she was a decent mother to her daughters. Her daughters all suffered one way or another from the extreme religiosity the permeated their entire lives. I think Joe,Sr. was contemptuous of religion and saw it as a necessary evil.

Ugh, that face. In the words of Tallulah Bankhead: "Dahling, please, people are eating."

Joan Kennedy was the only woman in the Kennedy family that Jackie actually liked and got along with. They saw each other regularly until Jackie died.

My sister worked with and was friends with this lady who her son was a ski instructor at some exclusive ski resort for the very rich and famous many years ago. He said that whenever the Kennedys left a hotel room they would trash it to the point that walls had holes in them, and the furniture was busted up and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Finally the hotel manager told them never to come back and to get out immediately. They said, don't you know who we are?! You can't speak to us like that and we can do whatever we want. The hotel manger said I don't care who you are and you can't destroy my hotel if you want to. The Kennedys were just furious. They acted as if you spoke to royalty in a tone that is not allowed.

Also, I worked with this lady once who her daughter was married to a wealthy doctor and they moved to one of the exclusive seaside towns where the Kennedys owned a home and vacationed frequently. I forgot the name of the town. Anyway, her daughter said, mom the town and especially the shop owners, hate the Kennedy family with a purple passion. She said the children in the Kennedy family would go into the shops and purposely break things, knock things to the floor, and throwing their weight around. When the shop owners protested their bad behavior, the Kennedy's would say, we are the Kennedy family and we can do whatever we please, tough!
