Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah (Arabic: الشيخ صباح الأحمد الجابر الصباح; 16 June 1929 – 29 September 2020) was the Emir of Kuwait and the Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces from 29 January 2006 until his death. He was the fourth son of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
After months of hospitalization at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Al-Sabah died on 29 September 2020 at 08:00 CDT (16:00 Kuwaiti Time) at the age of 91 due to long-term health issues. The Kuwaiti government declared 40 days of mourning. Kuwaiti Television and Radio broke normal programming on that day and broadcast Recitation of the Qur'anic Verses before Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, Minister of the Amiri Diwani Affairs, appeared at 16:48, formally announcing the Emir's passing.Sheikh Sabah's half brother the crown prince of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf was announced as the Emir of Kuwait.Al-Sabah was buried at Sulaibikhat cemetery alongside his kin

Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (Arabic: نواف الأحمد الجابر الصباح Nawwāf al-ʾAḥmad al-Jābir aṣ-Ṣabāḥ; born 25 June 1937) is the Emir of Kuwait and the Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces. On 30 September 2020, he succeeded to the throne following the death of his half-brother, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Nawaf had been nominated as Crown Prince on 7 February 2006.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was born on 25 June 1937. He is a son of the 10th ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He studied in different schools in Kuwait
Sheikh Nawaf married Sharifa Sulaiman Al-Jasem Al-Ghanim, daughter of Sulaiman Al-Jasem Al-Ghanim. They have four sons and two daughters
Sheikh Nawaf is one of the most senior serving members of the House of Sabah and has been serving Kuwait for well over 58 years in various responsibilities. At age 25, he was appointed as governor of Hawalli on 21 February 1962 and held the post until 19 March 1978. In 1978, he assumed the post of Minister of Interior and held this post until 26 January 1988 when he was appointed Minister of Defense. Following the liberation of Kuwait in the Gulf War, Sheikh Nawaf was appointed as the acting minister of labor and social affairs on 20 April 1991 and held the post until 17 October 1992.
On 16 October 1994, Sheikh Nawaf was appointed as deputy chief of the Kuwait National Guard and held that post until 2003.The same year, Sheikh Nawaf reassumed the post of minister of the interior until an Amiri Decree was issued on 16 October 2003 assigning him as first Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait and Minister of Interior. Sheikh Nawaf played a vital role in supporting programs that support national unity amongst the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and Arab countries.
With the ascendance of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the leadership of Kuwait on 29 January 2006, an Amiri Decree was issued on 7 February 2006 officially designating Sheikh Nawaf as the Crown Prince.This was contrary to the tradition of the Al-Sabah family, according to which the offices of Emir and Crown Prince are supposed to alternate between the Al-Jaber and Al-Salem branches.
Sheikh Sabah died on 29 September 2020 and Nawaf was announced as the Emir of Kuwait during a meeting of the National Assembly.
