One 'rant', rough talks sour G-7 mood in confrontations with Donald Trump

At what a French described as one "extraordinary" session on Friday, leaders who had vowed to confront Trump over his decision to impose tariffs on US allies last week as part of his "America First" agenda, showered Trump with data one after the other.

Trump gave "a long, frank rant", the official said, repeating a position he carried through the 2016 US election campaign into the White House that the United States had suffered at the hands of its trading partners, with French President Emmanuel Macron pushing back on the assertion and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe chiming in.

It was a "a long litany of recriminations, somewhat bitter reports that the United States was treated unfairly," said the French official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

"It was a difficult time, rough, very frank."

SINGAPORE (REUTERS) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is scheduled to depart Singapore at 2 pm local time on Tuesday (June 12), a source who is involved in the planning of his visit to the city-state for a summit with US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (June 10).

The Tuesday departure plan is tentative, the source said asking for anonymity because of the sensitivity of the information.

Kim is scheduled to meet Trump at 9 am local time on Tuesday to talk about ending his country's nuclear programme and transforming the isolated state which has been under harsh international sanctions for its defiant arms programme.

Trump-Kim summit: Exceptional event for exceptional time

Some summits have reshaped world history; others have turned out failures. Which way the Trump-Kim summit may turn is anyone's guess.

When United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un first shake hands in Singapore tomorrow, they will most certainly be making history.

However, history is certainly no guide to how such notable gatherings impact on the future course of events. Some summits have changed the world, laying the foundations to a new global order. But others have only made a bad situation worse, by becoming part of the problem rather than offering a solution to major crises.

Mr Kim had touched down at Singapore's Changi Airport at about 2.35pm, before his motorcade was escorted out of the airport's VIP complex, onto Airport Boulevard towards the Pan-Island Expressway.

Mr Kim was believed to be in one of two black Mercedes Benz limousines that had unmarked
