The earthquake is the second major tremor to hit Mexico this year. Earlier in the month, an 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit of the southwestern coast of the country, primarily impacting the regions of Oaxaca and Chipas. The tremors reached as far as Mexico City and Guatemala City. At least 98 people were killed by that earthquake.
But, Mr Trump did not respond as speedily to that event. It took him nearly a week to call Mexican President Pena Nieto to offer his condolences, which he said was because of poor mobile phone connexion. Those condolences were the first public comments from the President on the natural disaster, which left 2.5 million people in need of assistance
