Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia began his visit in Japan, attending a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe in Kyoto. Both Prime Ministers confirmed the friendly relations between their respective states and called for further strengthening of cooperation, especially in the economic field.

They also welcomed the Convention on the elimination of double taxation in terms of income tax and the prevention of fiscal evasion and tax avoidance, which was signed in late September. At the same time, they both agreed that extensive potential exists between the two states, which should be utilised to establish a closer cooperation in the field of science.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Cerar invited Abe to visit Slovenia as the first Japanese Prime Minister in the next year, when the states mark 25 years of mutual diplomatic relations. The last time that the Slovenian Prime Minister visited Japan was in April 2008.
